As ITZY’s new EP Guess Who takes over the world and reaches charts in nations they don’t usually perform well in, the set’s lead single also makes a noticeable impact in a number of places. The South Korean girl group’s latest hit “In The Morning” makes its way to the Hot 100 in Canada, and by landing another win on that competitive list, the band has made history in one very specific manner.
“In The Morning” debuts at No. 97 on this week’s Canadian Hot 100, narrowly making it onto the 100-rung tally. By appearing on the list at all, the track has become the band’s second hit on the tally, which is a rare feat for a vocal act from their home country of South Korea. In fact, ITZY is just the second girl group from the Asian nation to send more than one cut to the weekly ranking.
ITZY first reached the Canadian Hot 100 last year, when their single “Wannabe” lifted slightly higher than “In The Morning” has, landing at No. 92 for one frame. Now, the act has doubled their total sum, and joined one of the biggest names from South Korea by doing so.
Only Blackpink, another one of the most successful girl groups to emerge from South Korea in the past several years, has also managed to hit the Canadian Hot 100 more than once. With 11 charting hits throughout their time together, the quartet is in a distant first place among all-female acts from the territory.
When ITZY scored their first hit on the Canadian Hot 100 last spring, Blackpink already stood out as the most successful South Korean girl group in the ranking’s history, though their number of charting songs exploded shortly after that, as 2020 was a huge year for the four-member band. Since ITZY landed their first win, Blackpink has collected five smashes on the list.
Just two other South Korean girl groups have reached the Canadian Hot 100 at all, with both TWICE and Red Velvet landing one placement apiece, though either one of those acts (or possibly even both) could collect another win at some point soon.
